Our History
The late Donald J. Goldberg began his career in 1956 and spent his lifetime working in one capacity or another in the table grape industry worldwide. He was well-respected and sought after for his consulting services and expertise of table grapes.
Donald’s vast knowledge along with years of research, investigations and evaluations of virtually every type of agricultural nutrient and growth product developed into the principle of Embryo Nutrition™. When this principle was implemented with his growers, that the type of nutrition is as important as the timing of the application, they yielded exceptional results.
Donald’s search for finding the best organically based materials for use in agriculture also led to meeting Shaul Sela from VGI Israel in the mid-80’s. Sela introduced Donald to a unique preparation called KF-20 that was developed by Sela for extreme environments found in Israeli deserts over 40 years ago. That meeting resulted in the development of KF-200, which is still being applied to thousands of acres of table grapes even today. So Donald J. Goldberg’s legacy lives on as our team at VGI Americas continues to bring KF-200 to growers of vineyards, orchards and other crops.

KF-200
KF-200 is a unique blend of robust desert plants and several propriety seaweed extracts, oils, proteins and enzymes and complex molecules, designed to supply plant tissues, including roots, shoots and fruits, with a balance of trace elements and very active growth factors.
KF-200 is formulated as a conventional commercial fertilizer (2-1-3) for use in California agriculture. KF-20, the technical material from which KF-200 is formulated, was developed for the extreme environments found in Israeli deserts over 40 years ago by Shaul Sela. Through the utilization of a unique technology, all of the fertilizer’s ingredients have been combined in such a manner that each ingredient supports and enhances the effects of the other.
Just a few KF-200 Benefits:

Embryo Nutrition™
Embryo Nutrition™ has been implemented across many crops with success throughout the world in best-of-class vineyards, orchards, and fields. Central to the Embryo Nutrition™ is the use of KF-200, a unique feeding and nutritive product developed and manufactured by VGI Americas.
Like an embryo in the womb that requires critical nutrition & nourishment, plants as well, need exceptional nutrition prior to blossoming & ripening. Next year’s crops begin to develop long before the fruit appears. Embryo Nutrition™ operates under the same principle: The plant is nourished during the initial & critical stages of fruit development.
Through Embryo Nutrition™ it is possible to obtain stronger greener plants, yielding increased quantities of healthy beautiful fruit. Growers that apply VGI's KF-200 according to the recommended amounts are achieving tremendous success.

Embryo Feeding Principle
Immediately after harvest, next year’s crop has already begun. It is essential to feed the embryo (primordia) at this time to insure a strong plant with a healthy abundant crop. Feeding the embryo changes the entire future development of the plant & the fruit. This is the most important time in the life of the plant & the fruit, because it is the time of cell division. The stronger the cells, the firmer the fruit.
Nutrition Principle
Embryo Nutrition™ begins by providing the proper ratio of natural primary, secondary, trace & ultra-trace elements in combination to feed & sustain the soil’s beneficial microbial communities. This combination is derived from plant extracts with rich concentrations of plant enzymes, amino acids, metalloproteinase, humic acid, fulvic acid, phospholipids, & natural plant vitamins & minerals.
Larger Fruit Principle
Larger fruit is detrimental to quality—unless size results from proper nutrition during cell division.
The Root Flush Principle
The periods of the first & second root flush, signal the beginning of cell division in the fruit primordia. These are very critical times to fertilize the plants in order to have outstanding fruit quality & yields.
Carbohydrate Post Harvest Principle
The stored carbohydrates (food) for next year’s crop are in the trunk, cordons, canes, leaves & roots. By post harvest, this carbohydrate reservoir can become critically depleted by a host of factors; starting with the current year’s over-cropping, the weather, irrigation practices, chemical applications, insect damage, etc. Post-harvest is the most important time to replenish the carbohydrate reservoir for next year’s crop by applying the first application of Embryo Nutrition™ in the soil.
Without adequate carbohydrate reserves, the plants will be damaged by frost, bud break will be delayed & the harvest will be late. Moreover, bud break will be weak & erratic & a short crop with smaller bunches & weaker fruit will result. All of these defects are followed by alternate bearing. The real cause of alternate bearing is the shortage of carbohydrates after harvest.
